Japanese Weekends
The weekends aim to be the time to update myself on what the kids are doing, a good part of the updates (aside from how much laundry has accumulated!) is a blow by blow account of the several animẻ storylines. As animate (pardon the pun) as I would want to have appeared at the start, my eyes glaze over and the kids would knew to go on neutral for my old brain to catch up.
The start of this year had me educated by my children on terms. It took some time and research (what do kids know?!) to NOT call anim ẻ a cartoon. This is because anim ẻ is based on a Japanese comic book or a Manga. Thinking that getting the terminology down and some of the titles straight (best speech calisthenics!), another weekend agenda will replace it..but no…for the past 9 months a gradual appreciation of this has even affected our growing collection of "how to" books ( Manga drawing ) and a request from my eldest to take up Nihonggo (Japanese) classes.
I don't know how far the interest will go but lately the look of glazed eyes and deer on headlights have been changed with eyes with joy and amazement. These weekend updates showed me the progress the kids make in relaying their thoughts, explaining the plots in sequential order and their attention to detail. I am not fond of having the television baby sit the kids but there is always something parents can do to turn things around to our favor.
